SAFFRON

Saffron is a spice derived from the flowers of the plant of the same name (Crocus sativus). Each flower has three stigmas of a dark orange to brownish red color, which are handpicked from the rest of the flower and then dried to obtain the saffron strands. Its flavor is bitter and is highly appreciated for the yellow color it yields in food.
