They are the partially dehydrated fruits (seed cones) of the Juniperus communis species.  The berries are spherical, about 5-9 mm in diameter and with a color that ranges from dark blue to dark brown. Its aroma is soft and pleasant. They are used frequently as condiments and to flavour alcoholic beverages, such as gin.
